THE KNOW-HOW-TRANSFER PROJECT

The Know-How-Transfer (KHT) project has been conducted in previous years at the local and national levels in Germany, allowing JCI Members to participate in their government's decision-making process by direct communication with Members of Parliament. The KHT program has benefited not only JCI Members by helping them become acquainted with leaders of Parliament, but also politicians by opening doors for them to learn about their constituency.
After seeing the success of JCI Germany the JCI Europe’s aim was to organize this project in a bigger size. In 2005, KHT has greatly increased its scope by being implemented at the European level. At the European KHT in Brussels, JCI Members had the opportunity to communicate directly with European Commission officials and numerous Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), thus strengthening personal contacts and increasing understanding between politicians and the business community.

On 11-12 October 2005, in Brussels, leaders of the European Parliament and the European Commission, among them Jose Barroso, President of the European Commission, warmly welcomed 44 JCI Europe Members from 16 countries. The European Parliament opened its doors to JCI Members, not just for plenary sessions but also parliamentary meetings, committees and various parliamentary working groups.
In 2006 we could enlarge this project: 87 JCI members from 24 countries participated. In 2007 the Know How Transfer was held for the third time with the involvement of participants from 15 countries.
Each year, Keynote speakers from the Commission as well as a Vice President of the Parliament, expressed various opinions regarding urgent issues such as the Lisbon Strategy, the “constitution- process” and the European financial outlook for 2007-2013, The role of NGOs in EU policy shaping or SME Policy and entrepreneurship initiatives of the EU.

The goals of KHT
The main goal is to build and strengthen personal contacts and achieve better mutual understanding between Members of the European Parliament and representatives of the business community. Business people and politicians know far too little about each other. For three days in October, they had the opportunity to get closer and work together.
Additional goals:
• Promoting the European idea
• Reduce prejudices and misunderstandings
• Tighten the network between JCI members and MEPs
The direct dialogue and exchange of experiences during this project can lead to better network and reduction of mutual prejudices, as well as better understanding of the mutual challenges and experiencing political lobbying “first hand”.

Now we’re going to run this program the 4th time:
From October 6th – 8th 2008 JCI members will travel to Brussels, to discover the Europeans politics “inside”. We have limited the number of participants to 60!
We’re looking forward to continue this process of building the bridge between politicians and young leaders and entrepreneurs!

OPEN TUINEN 1 : Open Beleuvenissen vrijdag 4 juli

Beste JCI Leuvenaars,

Dorien
